Neuro Medal Exam in Memory of Dr V Nagarajan

On the occasion of the first birth anniversary of late Dr V Nagarajan MD,DM(Neuro), MNAMS, DSC, FRCP, Glasgow, which falls today(30.4.2023) with a view to Honour his memory, the family members in a solemn brief function handed over the documents to Hon'ble Minister for Health Education and Family Welfare Mr. Ma Subramanian to institute a Neurology Medal examination for Post Graduate MD students in the General Medicine Department.

Towards this Mrs Mohanarani Nagarajan (wife) contributed a sum of are 1 lakh as fixed deposit to the General Medicine Department, Madurai Medical college, Madurai. The family also sponsored a Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal for the same. Dean, Dr A Rathinavel and connected faculty were present. On the occasion, from the side of the family Mrs Mohanarani Nagarajan (wife), Mrs Krithika Radhakrishnan (daughter) and Dr.J.Radhakrishnan (son-in-law), Additional Chief Secretary, Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department were present while his grandson Dr. Arvind Radhakrishnan, who is pursuing MD (General Medicine) in Chennai sent his wishes

At the time of his demise, Professor Dr.Nagarajan Venkataraman was serving as the President of AllIMS, Madurai. He was also the Chairperson of the Ethical Committee in the Madurai Medical College and was a distinguished Professor of the TN Dr MGR Medical University. He was a product of Madurai Medical College passed out of MBBS in 1968, completed his MD (General Medicine) in 1984 and qualified as DM in Neurology in 1989. He was the faculty of the College till his retirement, after which he continued to serve as consultant neurologist at VN Neuro care Centre and Hospital founded by him which is located at Vakil New Street. He also contributed by serving in various other positions in various committees such as ICMR, NIPER and also served as Examiner for various courses. In his lifetime he was passionate about teaching, clinical research and was as Member of various committees and visiting faculty in several institutions. During his studies he was recipient of Gold Medals in Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Paediatrics, Medicine apart from obtaining University Rank. He also received merit certificate of Honour in Social and Preventive Medicine and Operative surgery. He was also involved in social causes.

Considering his passion towards teaching, his birth place- Tiruparankundram, Madurai and his alma-mater the historic Government Medical College at Madurai, his family members felt it would be apt and a privilege, if it is permitted to contribute towards institution of a Medal Examination in his memory. This has been graciously accepted by the Department of General Medicine, Madurai Medical College.

His family profusely thanks the Government of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Minister Mr. Ma Subramanian and the Dean and the Professor M Natarajan the HOD, Department of General Medicine and the faculty of the college and the department for their gesture in instituting the Medal exam in his honor.

The family mentioned that apart from continuing the services through the VN NEURO care centre and hospital founded by him, the family also proposes to soon start a trust in his memory which would focus on addressing the issues of Mental health and also involve in overall preventive and promotive health activities.
