The Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) organized the Tamil Nadu Scientists Award (TANSA) Ceremony on Monday, 23rd October at Anna University, Chennai. The Awards were given in different categories based on the contribution in research and outreach activities by the individual scientists. The Awards for the year 2018,2019,2020 and 2021 were given by the Honorable Minister for Higher Education, Th. K. Ponmudy, in the presence of Th. Pradeep Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, Th. T. Abraham, Commissioner, Directorate of Technical Education, Dr. J. Prakash, Registrar, Anna University and Dr. S. Vincent, Member Secretary, TNSCST, Chennai.
Four scientists from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University received Awards in the category of Agricultural Sciences. Dr. P. Jeyakumar, Director (Planning & Monitoring) received the Award for the year 2018 based on his contribution in the area of Physiological approaches in Crop Management. Dr. U. Sivakumar, Professor and Head (Agrl. Microbiology) received the Award for the year 2019 based on his work in the area of fermentation, biocatalysts, proteomics and protein engineering while Dr. G. Karthikeyan, Professor (Plant Pathology) received the Award for the year 2020 in the area of Plant Virology and Biological control. Dr. K. T. Parthiban, Professor (Forestry) received the Award for the year 2021 for his contribution in Tree improvement, Industrial Agroforestry and the Project on “Trees Outside Forests in India”.
The Vice- Chancellor, Dr.V.Geethalakshmi congratulated the scientists for their achievements, in the presence of Dr.R.Thamizh Vendan, Registrar and other University Officers. The Vice Chancellor suggested to focus more on inder-disciplinary research that benefits farming community.
