First-Time Voter & Election Awareness Program Held in Madurai

A first-time voter and election awareness program was jointly organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College and Madurai Young Indians. The event was held at 9:00 AM on Friday (27-03-2026) at the college premises.


The program was presided over by College Principal Dr. Ramasubbaiah. College Chairman Vijayaraghavan and Secretary Engineer Sridhar graced the occasion.


Madurai Young Indians Chair Vikranth Karmekam delivered the introductory address, explaining the importance of first-time voting and election awareness to the students.


Madurai District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar attended as the chief guest and inaugurated the event by releasing balloons arranged in the colors of the Indian national flag, created by 600 students. In his special address, he emphasized the importance of young voters fulfilling their democratic duties. He also explained how first-time voters should cast their votes at polling booths, the purpose of voting, and various aspects of election awareness.


Following this, several student activities were conducted, including election awareness-themed dance performances, mime acts, a mock legislative assembly discussion, and a model voting process demonstrating how to cast a vote.


Earlier, NSS Program Officer Silambarasan welcomed the gathering, and Madurai Young Indians Yuva Chair Mrs. Janani delivered the vote of thanks.


More than 2,000 students participated in the program and benefited from it. They also interacted with the District Collector.


The event arrangements were jointly made by Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College and Madurai Young Indians.
