A drug awareness programme titled “Choose Dreams, Not Drugs” was organised at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College in Madurai on September 1, 2026. The programme was jointly conducted by Young Indians Ma Madurai 2.0, the college’s Anti-Drug Committee, and the Tamil Nadu Police Department.
On behalf of Yuva–Young Indians Madurai, Janani delivered the welcome address. College Chairman M. Vijayaraghavan, Secretary S. Ira. Sridhar, and Principal Dr. A. Ramasubbaiah were present at the event.
The chief guest, Inigo Diviyan, TPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Madurai, explained the harmful effects of drug use in a manner that was easy for students to understand. He elaborated on the impact of drugs on the Central Nervous System, why drugs should be avoided, the physical and social consequences of drug abuse, and the proper procedures for reporting drug-related incidents or information to the concerned authorities.
Sub-Inspector Sivaprakasham of Thirupparankundram subsequently interacted with the students. As a former student of Mannar College, he engaged with them in an informal and friendly manner and shared practical insights into the ground realities of drug abuse, the current situation, its social impact, and the challenges faced by young people.
Dr. R. Alagesan, Yuva Nodal Officer, explained how the programme was planned, its objectives, and the importance of creating awareness against drug abuse among youngsters.
More than 400 students who participated in the programme collectively took an anti-drug pledge.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Se. Muniyasamy, Coordinator of the Anti-Drug Committee.
