Flipkart Showcases Coimbatore Fulfilment Centre Ahead of Big Billion Days

Business MInutes

Flipkart hosted a behind-the-scenes walkthrough of its Coimbatore fulfilment centre ahead of The Big Billion Days 2026, showcasing the operational scale, technology, and supply chain depth driving festive deliveries across Tamil Nadu.

The Coimbatore facility covers an area equivalent to more than one M.A. Chidambaram Stadium playing surface, built as an integrated single-warehouse construct that executes end-to-end supply chain operations, including First Mile, Fulfilment, Sortation, Sortation Center and Last Mile deliveries, on a continuous daily schedule. As a core network hub, it connects extensively across regional networks powering the South zone while linking key multi-lane trade routes across the North, East and West.

The facility incorporates hands-free scanning, Volumetric Distribution Systems to link fulfilment centre and material handling transfers, colour-coded inventory crates, and 14 expanded Telescopic Belt Conveyors across inbound and outbound workflows. Specialised teams use live dashboards and real-time tracking to ensure time-sensitive deliveries are met. The centre also sets strict benchmarks in workplace safety through early fire suppression systems, machine safety interlocks and mandatory EHS induction training for all staff before task deployment.

Tamil Nadu's role in Flipkart's logistics network is reflected in numbers: a state footprint exceeding 25 lakh square feet supporting over 1.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs. As e-commerce penetration deepens in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, placing fulfilment and last-mile facilities closer to customers allows Flipkart to serve smaller towns faster and more reliably, during the festive season and through the year.

Flipkart currently connects nearly 70,000 sellers in Tamil Nadu to a pan-India market. Key manufacturing clusters including Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Kancheepuram and Thanjavur use the platform to distribute locally produced goods nationwide. Dedicated growth teams in Chennai, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem provide hands-on onboarding, cataloguing and logistics support to sellers across the state.

Through Flipkart Samarth and a strategic collaboration with TN-RISE, Flipkart is enabling local MSMEs, artisans, women entrepreneurs, startups and Farmer Producer Organisations to participate in the digital economy and reach customers across India.

To support peak demand during the festive season, Flipkart is generating over 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities nationwide, including nearly 75,000 first-time workforce entrants. The expansion includes over 900 new festive delivery hubs and nearly 1.4 lakh additional last-mile roles. Women now hold over 20% of supply chain roles, while employment for persons with disabilities has expanded across both warehouse and delivery operations.

Tamil Nadu sits at the heart of this network. For sellers in Tiruppur's textile clusters or artisans in Thanjavur, the Coimbatore fulfilment centre is the infrastructure that turns a local product into a national opportunity. For customers across the state, it is what makes the promise of Big Billion Days deliverable.
