Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
BIS has started organizing new series of discussion-programmes titled “Manak Manthan” for the benefit of industry which is scheduled on every month, and is envisaged to launch new standards and share important revisions / amendments and wide circulation drafts to local manufacturers, Industrial and Trade Bodies, Chambers of Commerce, Industry Associations, PSU’s or organizations who use such products, Government departments, Regulatory bodies, Laboratories, Civil society groups and Academia.
In this regard, Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office organised the MANAKMANTHAN on “CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - IS26001 " in Chennai on 18 April 2023, Tuesday. With the formalization of Section 135, under the Companies Act, 2013, India emerged as one of the pioneering nations to mandatorily adopt Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). an immediate necessity has emerged to uniformly assess the CSR performance of companies especially in terms of implementation, reporting and real-time impact. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) with the sole directive to formulate standard to assess and certify products and systems in the country, undertook the responsibility to devise Indian Standard on “Corporate Social Responsibility. This standard facilitates a company to effectively establish a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework that is supported by appropriate process and procedures, with an overall objective to ensure that it has an effective mechanism. This standard is applicable for all types of companies irrespective of their size, nature of business and CSR project activity and CSR budget, except for such companies that have been defined as implementing agencies by the laws of the land, if any.
More than 70 Stakeholders of the subject matter attend the programme. Shri Anuj Bhatnagar, Scientist-F & Head (Management Systems Department), BIS, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour & Shri Arvind Kumar, Managing Director,Chennai Pertolium Corporation Limited was the Chief Guest of the Programme.
Mr. USP Yadav, Scientist-F & Deputy Director General (Southern Region), BIS, Chennai ; Ms.G.Bhavani, Scientist-E/Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) and other Officers of BIS handled the sessions.
