Temple town Kumbakonam welcomed the “Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam” roadshow that enthralled the community of Saurashtra Tamils and locals alike. Organized in the city by the state government of Gujarat, the session saw an interactive participation. The roadshow was organized to generate awareness about Saurashtra Tamils and the cultural program ‘Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam’.
Organized jointly by the Gujarat state government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed Central Government, the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is a cultural program organized on the lines of the Kashi Sangamam. The 15-day program to be organized in Saurashtra from 17th April 2023 onwards will offer locals, students, historians, businessmen and all citizens an opportunity to discover, affirm and celebrate the cultural affinity between Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the press conference, Shri Dr MahendrabhaiMunjapara, Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development, and Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy, said, “Kumbakonam has a unique history associated with Kings and dynasties. It is also among the leading producers of Silk, betel leaves, and arecanut. Nearly 80,000 Saurashtra Tamils live in Kumbakonam. And, Saurashtra is a language spoken by many in this region.”
