Graduation Day of BARC Training School at IGCAR campus, OCES - 2022

The 17th batch (OCES-2022) of Trainee Scientific Officers from the BARC Training School at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam has successfully completed their one year orientation- cum-training in the field of Nuclear Science and Engineering in six disciplines (viz.) Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fast Reactor Technology (Mechanical/Chemical/Electronics/Electrical), Nuclear Reactor Physics and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Chemistry and graduated in a special event that took place at IGCAR on July 25, 2023.

Dr. Vidya Sundararajan, Head, BARC Training School at IGCAR & Associate Director, RESG, SQRMG, IGCAR welcomed the gathering and thanked the vision of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha in meeting the energy demand and having a sustained inflow of trained human resources for taking up the challenging assignments of the Department. She also briefed about the Training School programme at IGCAR. Prof. B. Venkatraman, Distinguished Scientist and Director, IGCAR & General Service Organisation during his address, recalled his training school days and rewards of networking within a batch. He advised the Graduating Officers to have an open minded approach and inculcate lateral thinking to cut across the challenges in the branches of Science and Engineering to make a marked difference. He in his address also motivated the young officers to develop incremental innovative thinking and added attitude determines altitude. 

Dr. Jayanti S Ravi, IAS, Secretary, Auroville foundation, Puducherry was the Chief Guest and distributed the prestigious Homi Bhabha Prizes comprising of medallions and certificates to the toppers and released the souvenir featuring the activities of training school during the academic year 2022-2023.  In her inspiring address, she shared the life and teachings of Sri Aurobindo. The importance of self-learning and poverty in prosperity and prosperity in poverty was beautifully expressed by her, quoting her own life experiences. She emphasized the graduating officers to embrace science with endurance, perseverance, boldness, creativity, humility and team work.

Mr. Arjit Ghoshal from the 17th batch from nuclear fuel cycle chemistry discipline is the overall topper of this batch and the recipient of the Homi Bhabha Medal. The graduating Trainee Scientific Officers will be placed in important projects across various Units of DAE.
