BIS organises a sensitization cum awareness programme for Central Government officials

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Chennai Branch Office Organized a Sensitization Programme on Standards & Quality for officials from various Central Government Departments at Chennai on 30 May 2024 at Hotel Vestin Park, Chennai.


Smt. G. BHAVANI, Director & Head, Chennai Branch Office, Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai welcomed the gathering and explained the programme objectives. She mentioned that in order to strengthen the Quality Ecosystem in the country, Bureau of Indian Standards conducts Sensitization programmes on Indian Standards to various stakeholders, including State and Central Government Officials, Industries, Laboratories, etc.


Shri USP Yadav, Deputy Director General, BIS delivered the Inaugural address and mentioned that BIS through its Standards Formulation, Conformity Assessment, Management Systems and Certification, Hallmarking of Gold & Silver ensures quality availability of products and services to industry, trade, commerce and common Consumers. He also stressed that BIS intends to promote the culture of standardization, educate Central/State Government officials about BIS functions, and provide information on specific standards related to their departments thereby enhancing the quality of public deliverables by every department through the adoption and implementation of standards


Shri Sreejith Mohan, Scientist-D explained the gathering about the latest initiatives of BIS including e-BIS & BIS Care App.  They were also informed about the various features of e BIS, BIS website and procedures to find and download standards relevant to their fields through Know your Standard on eBIS and BIS Care App. It was also emphasized that only standard marked products should be procured.


This was followed by Shri. Arun Pucchakayala, during his technical presentation made the participants aware on the Standards Related to Government Departments.


Around 85 officials of Central Government departments participated in the Programme.


Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
