The Madras
Export Processing Zone (MEPZ SEZ) and the National Academy of Customs, Indirect
Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN ZTI Chennai) have entered into a significant
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on capacity building and
training initiatives. This strategic partnership marks a new chapter in
fostering excellence in the administration of Indirect Tax Laws and trade
facilitation within India.
The MoU,
signed at MEPZ SEZ in the presence of senior officials from both institutions,
establishes a framework for joint efforts in developing and conducting
comprehensive training programs. The partnership will leverage the expertise of
NACIN ZTI Chennai in customs law, indirect taxes, and SEZ procedures, alongside
the practical experience of MEPZ SEZ Chennai in trade facilitation and indirect
tax implementation.

Highlights of the MoU:
Joint
Training Programs: The collaboration will involve the development of
specialized training programs focused on Customs, GST, and SEZ laws and
procedures. These programs aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of officers
from both institutions, facilitating the exchange of best practices and
fostering a deeper understanding of tax administration and trade facilitation.
Workshops
and Seminars: Regular workshops and seminars will be organized to address
emerging challenges and share innovative solutions in the areas of Customs,
GST, and SEZ operations.
On-field
Attachments: MEPZ SEZ will provide on-field attachment opportunities for
officers undergoing training at NACIN ZTI Chennai, ensuring practical exposure
to real-world scenarios in trade facilitation and indirect tax administration.
Resource
Sharing: Both institutions will exchange relevant training materials, case
studies, and data analytics tools to support their collaborative efforts in
enhancing enforcement measures and plugging revenue leakages.
Capacity
Building for MEPZ-SEZ Officers: NACIN ZTI Chennai will conduct introductory
and refresher courses for newly posted and existing MEPZ-SEZ officers, ensuring
they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to effectively manage
SEZ operations.

the occasion, Dr M G Tamizh Valavan, IRS, Additional Director General of NACIN
ZTI Chennai stated “This MoU is a testament to our shared commitment to building
a robust framework for training and capacity building. By combining our
strengths, we aim to create a highly skilled workforce capable of navigating
the complexities of Customs, GST, and SEZ regulations.”
