Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Dakshin Tamil Nadu, in association with Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West, organized a One-Day National Conference on INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM (IKS), on 28-09-2024, Saturday. The Inaugural session commenced with the college prayer, Om Sahana Vavatu, and Tamil Thaai Vaalthu. The Principal, Dr.T.Venkatesan, gave his welcome address. In his address, he highlighted the activities in the Gurukulam of the college which are giving a permanent and sustainable life-training to the students.
Dr.M.Selvam, Kshestra Sanjojak - Dakshin Kshestra, gave his Presidential Address. He stated, “We have to do sustainable practice of Indian life-style with nature, and we have to live as One-family and One-society. Similarly, Indian Civilization has the longest history of tradition and all faculties of domain of knowledge. So, knowledge constitutes spiritualism and values. Indian has dynamic culture and religion. Hence it is time to spread our Indian Knowledge System to the mass.”
Special Invitees, VIPs, and Resource Persons were honoured with Shawls and Books of Indian Spiritualism. Srimath Swami Niyamananda, Vice-President, Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Tirupparaithurai, gave his blessings emphasized, “We are owner of matured civilization. But western countries destroyed our culture, spiritualism, and natural resources. In order to voice the Indian way of life, our Founder Swami Chidbhavananda started the Gurukulam. It is time to revitalize our education system along with National Education Policy.”
Srimath Swami Vedananda Maharaj, Secretary, gave his blessings and wished that there should be more college in India based on Gurukulam. Dr. R.Ilango, Associate Professor of English, Formerly President – BSM, Dhakshin Tamil Nadu, gave his felicitation address on IKS. He stated that our college is giving honest students who serve the society with dedication and commitment. Dr.M.G.Sethuraman, Vice-President – BSM, Dhakshin Tamil Nadu, also gave his felicitation and declared that Indigenous Peoples and their culture will be included in the Indian Knowledge System.
Inaugural address was given by Dr.M.Selvam, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy. The Vice-Chancellor said that our country has huge number of subjects from ancient time. We have to explore the subjects, and share them with our current generations. The keynote Address was given by Col.(Hon) Prof. Dr.Rajendrakumar Anayath, Officer on Special Duty, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Haryana. Dr.Rajendrakumar Anayath stated that our yoga, mantra, and education system are used for the entire humanity; to the world, society and self.” Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr.M.Raja, Associate Professor of Commerce, Bharathidasan University, Trichy.
TECHNICAL SESSION – I
The conference’s technical session began with the Welcome Address of Dr.S.Venkatesh, Treasurer, BSM, Dhakshin Tamil Nadu. Dr.R.Vanniarajan, Formerly Principal, Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West, gave a lecture on, “Indian Knowledge System.” Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.S.Srinivasa Ragavan, Senior Professor and Chair, Department of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy.
TECHNICAL SESSION – II
The technical session II of the conference on IKS was chaired by Dr.V.Balamurugan, Vice-President, BSM, Dhakshin Tamil Nadu, and Dr.K.Karthikeyan, Vice-Principal, Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West. Academicians, teachers, professors, research scholars, and students presented their research papers on IKS. Vote of Thanks was proposed by M. VALEDICTORY FUNCTION
The conference’s valedictory function began with National Anthem and Tamil Thai Vazhthu, and Lighting of Lamp. The Organizing Secretary, Dr.S.Theenathayalan, President –BSM, welcomed the gathering.
Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu, Thiru R.N.Ravi delivered the Valedictory Address.
He stated that he was deeply delighted to see Vivekananda College with Gurukula system.The only one Higher Education Institution with ancient Gurukula practice is adorable, and Vivekananda College’s commitment and dedication in Higher Education are wholeheartedly appreciated. The Governor asked all to study and understand Bhāratīya Jñāna Paramparā Vibhāga and Indian Knowledge System (IKS). He also classified the differences in terms of history, culture, education, and religion. He wanted every teachers, scholars, students, and academicians to have 'thirst' -- 'aspiration to spread the Indian way of life to the world. By practicing the Bhāratīya Jñāna Paramparā Vibhāga, all people became healthier and owner of Indian Life-skills.
Thiru R.N.Ravi appreciated the Gurukula Education which is practical along with the Guru in Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West, Madurai. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr.T.Venkatesan, Principal, Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West. The programme concluded with our Neerarum Kadaludutha, National Anthem and “Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah.” Academicians, Professors, Scholars, Delegates, and Students enjoyed the display show of Silambam, Mallakhamb, and Gymnastic events.
