VIT Chennai's flagship technical fest, TechnoVIT'24, dazzled
from September 19 to 21, 2024, culminating in a grand finale after three
thrilling days of captivating events and exhibitions. Organized by over 20,000
enthusiastic students with the institution’s support, the festival boasted over
250 dynamic programs including hands-on experiences in drone piloting, robot
wars, workshops, hackathons and problem-solving challenges.
The final day of the fest showcased a wide array of
cutting-edge technologies, with international students demonstrating the latest
advancements. The valedictory function was graced by the presence of Dr. Sekar
Viswanathan, Vice President of VIT, Dr S. P. Thiyagarajan, Advisor to
Chancellor, Dr. T. Thyagarajan, Pro Vice Chancellor of VIT Chennai, and Dr.
P.K. Manoharan, Additional Registrar, along with esteemed faculty members and
students.
Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President of VIT, in his
Presidential address, highlighted Tamil Nadu’s success in attracting ₹7,616
crore in investments from 18 companies during the Honourable Chief Minister's
official visit to the United States, noting that this would significantly boost
job opportunities and stimulate both the state and national economies. Dr.
Sekar further emphasized the upcoming Tata Motors manufacturing unit in
Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, which is expected to create additional employment
opportunities. He affirmed VIT's commitment to contributing to this growth by
providing skill development programs tailored to the evolving job market. He
assured the audience that AI will not eliminate jobs but rather transform them,
urging individuals to remain agile and adapt to changing circumstances. He
concluded by advising that while mastering technology is crucial, it is equally
important not to become a slave to it.
Following Dr. Sekar Viswanathan's speech, the TechnoVIT Magazine was unveiled by the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest, Honorable Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Minister of
Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce, in his Valedictory address
commended VIT for its longstanding excellence. Dr. Rajaa drew attention to
TECHNOVIT 24's official mascot, VITRUVIAN, which required human assistance to
move, symbolizing the essential role humans play in creating and guiding
robotics. He encouraged the audience not to fear job loss, emphasizing that
self-perception is crucial to success. He also praised engineers for their
transformative contributions to society.
Dr. Rajaa reflected on India's global reputation as a
provider of services, noting that while the country excels in this area, it has
not yet emerged as a global creator. He pointed out that many Indians prefer to
work for companies like Google or Microsoft rather than building their own
enterprises. He stressed the importance of trust-building, citing Silicon
Valley as an example where such trust has fostered innovation. To drive change,
he urged students to become more civically engaged, emphasizing the need for
civics education to empower them to hold lawmakers accountable.
Encouraging young minds to innovate, he invited students to
approach STARTUP TN with their ideas and access seed funding, assuring them
that the Government of Tamil Nadu is committed to supporting their success. Dr.
Rajaa also emphasized the importance of being "space-ready,"
highlighting India's advancements with ISRO and Tamil Nadu’s recent MoU with
the Australian Space Agency to establish space research parks. Drawing
parallels between VIT’s mentorship of its students and Tamil Nadu's support for
their success, he praised TECHNOVIT 24 as an outstanding event and promised
that its 10th edition would be even more extraordinary.
The Guest of Honor, Smt. Immanni Deepa Venkat, Managing
Trustee of Swarna Bharat Trust, Correspondent of Akshara Vidyalaya, Nellore,
and Joint Managing Director of Vishnu Group of Companies, addressed the
audience and emphasized the importance of students having a clear vision to
achieve their goals. She encouraged students to adapt to the changing world and
to cultivate a sense of gratitude toward their parents, their institution, and
their peers.
The evolution of TechnoVIT over the years reflects VIT
Chennai's commitment to fostering a culture of technological advancement and
academic excellence while continuing to attract participation from a broader
audience each year.
