As part of the World Standards Day (WSD) celebrations for the year 2024, BIS, Madurai Branch Office conducted a Stakeholders Conclave on 01 October 2024 at SRM Hotel, Thoothukudi. 100 participants from various sectors, including Manufacturers, Laboratories, Exporters, Importers, Government Departments, Academic Institutions and college students, NGOs and 12 industrial associations were engaged in the discussions about the Role of Standards in fostering industrial growth and public welfare.
Shri S. D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS, Madurai presented the welcome address and program objectives. He explained about the importance of Standardization and Quality in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The program covered a wide range of topics, including the core activities of BIS, features of the BIS Care App, the roles and responsibility of BIS in the manufacture of quality products, ISI Mark & Hallmark (Gold Jewellery), the procedures for applying for new application, renewal, inclusion through manakonline Portal were covered.
After the presentation, a detailed open house discussion was held and several queries regarding the application procedures, requirements and testing methods regarding the Indian Standards were clarified.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), as the National Standards Body of India, has been at the forefront of establishing and promoting standards across various sectors, ensuring quality and safety for both consumers and industries. BIS celebrate World Standards Day every year on 14 October, to recognize the efforts made by the professionals for formulating standards voluntarily. It serves as a platform to reflect on the impact of standardization across industries and how it fosters innovation, builds trust, and ensures quality in products and services.
