Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager of Southern Railway, inspected the Virudunagar–Tiruchchirappalli section (via Manamadurai, Sivaganga, Karaikkudi, and Pudukottai) under Madurai Railway Division.
During the inspection, he reviewed ongoing projects, including station development works under the Amrit Bharat Scheme at Karaikkudi and Development work in progress at Shivaganga. Shri Sharad Srivastava (Divisional Railway Manager), Madurai, Shri K Hari Kumar- Chief Project Manager,Gati Shakti,Madurai Division and Divisional officers, accompanied him.
At Sivaganga, the General Manager inspected passenger amenities such as the circulating area and waiting hall. The platform height of Nos. 2 and 3 has been upgraded at a cost of Rs. 77 lakh, and platform extension work for 24-coach trains is underway at ₹55 lakh. A ramp for differently-abled passengers is also being constructed.
At Karaikkudi, station development works under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, valued at Rs. 7.51 crore, are progressing well, with 88% of the project completed. Integrated passenger information systems and three lifts have been installed on various platforms. Other completed works include platform roofing replacement, covered parking for four-wheelers, and a waiting hall. Construction of a canopy, entrance arch, and two-wheeler parking is nearing completion, along with improvements to the circulating area and approach road.
The General Manager continued his inspection on the Tiruchchirappalli–Karur–Salem–Jolarpettai and Chennai Central sections, reviewing various works.
