Mother Teresa Women’s University, Madurai Campus, celebrated National Education Day and Global Peace Day with a twin-event program, honoring the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, and the importance of peace in a rapidly changing world. The event underscored the vital role of education in shaping a peaceful, progressive society and aimed to inspire students with the values of unity and knowledge.
National Education Day, observed annually on November 11, commemorates the birth anniversary of Maulana Azad, a visionary leader, scholar, and a freedom fighter who was instrumental in establishing major educational institutions like the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and IIT Kharagpur. Azad’s efforts laid the foundation for modern education in India, making it a cornerstone of national development.
The celebration began with a warm welcome address by Dr. P. B. Beulahbel Bency, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education. Dr. Bency extended her greetings to the attendees, setting a tone of unity and purpose for the event. Dr. M. Pushpa Rani, Director of MTWU Madurai Campus, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing Azad's immense contributions to India’s educational landscape. "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad championed the cause of universal education and believed it to be a powerful tool for social transformation. His vision continues to guide us in building a society rooted in knowledge, inclusivity, and innovation," she remarked.
Dr. Pushpa Rani also spoke on the significance of peace as a global objective, linking it to the values fostered through education. "Education is not only about personal growth but also about nurturing harmony and respect among individuals and communities," she added. Adding to the insightful discussions, Dr. Renugadevi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, offered her felicitations. She acknowledged the importance of commemorating these ideals and appreciated the university’s efforts in organizing the twin event. Dr. Vallidevasena, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, also felicitated the gathering. In her address, she elaborated on the importance of peace in society, emphasizing that true progress is impossible without social harmony
The event featured a variety of programs, including student presentations on Azad's life and work, discussions on the importance of peace in current times, and a pledge by students and on Peace. The celebration concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Anusuah, Assitant Professor in Visual Communication.
