The Unit Approval Committee (UAC) of MEPZ SEZ, chaired by Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Development Commissioner, convened on January 6, 2025, to evaluate and approve proposals aimed at strengthening the SEZ ecosystem. A total of 16 proposals were reviewed during the meeting, resulting in approved investments worth ₹137.58 crore and the generation of 2,110 jobs.
Key approvals included M/s. Capgemini Technology Private Limited with an investment of ₹75 crore and 1,621 jobs in IT/ITES services at ELCOT SEZ, Vilankurichi, Coimbatore. M/s. Hedgemark Technologies Private Limited received approval for an investment of ₹2 crore, generating 246 jobs in IT and back-office support services at the same SEZ. Additionally, M/s. Texila Educare Healthcare and Technology Pvt. Ltd. was approved for an additional area within the SEZ, with an investment of ₹2 crore and 98 jobs.
The Development Commissioner emphasized the importance of efficient land use within SEZs and encouraged units to consider co-developer status. This move aims to boost infrastructure development and foster collaboration with stakeholders to attract high-value investments that support global value chain integration.
Reaffirming MEPZ SEZ’s commitment to promoting inclusive growth, the Development Commissioner continued to encourage units to prioritize gender balance in their workforce. He highlighted that a diverse workforce enhances organizational innovation and resilience and is a key pillar of sustainable development.
Commitment to Ease of Doing Business
In line with its mission to create a business-friendly ecosystem, MEPZ SEZ continues to implement measures to enhance ease of doing business. This includes the streamlining of approval processes and the issuance of same-day Letters of Approval(LoAs) for compliant proposals. These efforts ensure that approved projects can operationalize swiftly, reinforcing MEPZ SEZ’s position as a preferred investment destination.
Regional Impact
Since April 2024, MEPZ SEZ has facilitated ₹4,546 crore in investments, creating 32,726 jobs across SEZs and EOUs in the Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Puducherry (TAP) region. The approvals in this meeting further strengthen the SEZ’s contributions to regional economic development and global trade competitiveness.
