BIS Madurai celebrates 78th Foundation Day as Industry Convention

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Madurai celebrated 78th Foundation Day at Courtyard by Mariott on 06th January 2025 in Madurai. This milestone signifies 78 years of BIS's dedication to setting and promoting Indian Standards that have significantly influenced India's Industrial and Economic progress.  More than 200 people representing various industries participated in the program including Laboratories and Industrial Associations.


Shri S.D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head of BIS Madurai, delivered the welcome address and program objectives. Dr. N. Jagatheesan, President, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Senate Member of Madurai Kamaraj University, delivered the presidential address. He detailed in the role of BIS in maintaining product quality and consumer safety. He further intended on imparting awareness to traders in addition to manufacturers.


Shri T. Ravichandran, Deputy General Manager (Plant Head), Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Ltd., Ariyalur presented on the topic of "Grow Sustainably with Continuous Quality in Products, Processes, and People.


Shri R. Sathish Kumar, General Manager & Corporate Environment Head of the SANMAR Group, Karaikal, presented on the topic of "Implementation of SDGs in the Industrial Sector in chemical industry." 


Smt. Hemalatha P Panicker Joint Director, BIS, Madurai presented on BIS activities and the role of Industries as a major stakeholder. She also informed how Industries can contribute in formulating Indian standards that will be acceptable to a large number of nations which in turn will facilitate the country's international trade. 


Shri K. Rajanbabu, General Manager (R&D and QA) of Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Paper Limited, Karur, Presented on the topic of "Quality & Sustainability in the Pulp and Paper Industry." Shri Seenivasan C., General Manager & Plant Head of JK Fenner Limited, Madurai, spoke on the topic of "Energy Saving Methods for Sustainability Development & Cost Benefit associated."


Shri A. Arivazhagan, Joint Director of BIS, Madurai, delivered the vote of thanks, concluding the successful celebrations.
