TNAU inks MoA with StartupTN

The Biotech Council for Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology (COXBIT) was established in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. In this Centre, research and development activities will be carried out under public-private partnership mode to develop super active enzymes / biomolecules, biobased products, hormones for fruit ripening, plant growth stimulants and similar bio-inputs for the commercial benefit of farmers.


The Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology Building has been constructed with an area of 1.06 lakhs square ft, which includes knowledge and cabin space which can be occupied by start-ups, student entrepreneurs and established companies for research and development activities. State of art facilities was established at Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology to initiate high end research on proteomics and metabolomics. And also, the molecular biology laboratories, cold room, server room, tissue culture facility, conference hall, exhibition hall, internet, wi-fi, instrumentation facilities etc., are accommodated in the CoE in Biotechnology building.


Dr. N. Senthil, Director of Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology (COXBIT) and CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on behalf of Biotech Council for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology, Coimbatore, with M/s. StartupTN, Chennai, on January 22, 2025 to facilitate floor/knowledge space for fostering agri-entrepreneurship and research activities, in the presence of Dr. Atul Anand, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Micro, Small, Medium and Enterprises Department; Mr. Sivarajah Ramanathan, Chief Executive Officer of StartupTN and Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Associate Vice President of StartupTN. Mr. R. Ramkumar, CEO of CoEB and other delegates also attended the event.


Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU emphasized the need for collaboration with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, StartupTN to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and funding support for Agri and biotech startups at Tamil Nadu.


This partnership signifies a collaborative effort to enhance innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities in the agricultural biotechnology sector, fostering impactful research and development initiatives.
