Over 400 medical experts and healthcare practitioners from across the state took part in Meenakshi’s 2nd Infectious Diseases Conference (MIDCON) 2025 that focused on promoting the latest approaches and scientific developments in addressing the risks associated with antimicrobial resistance, a major public health threat linked to about 20% of deaths in India.
It was organised by the Hospital Infection Control committee, Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre in association with the Indian Medical Association, Madurai Meenakshi Chapter.
Inaugurated by Dr. B. Sridhar, IMA state President elect 2025-2026, IMA Tamil Nadu State Branch witnessed presentations from about 6 experts in various domains related to drug-resistant diseases.
The topics covered in the one-day conference included: Diagnostic Stewardship, Management of Pneumonia, Skin and Diabetic Wound Infections, Urinary Tract Infections,Tackling Antimicrobial resistance and Smart Strategies for Antimicrobial prescribing.
Nearly 5 lakh people die in India, due mainly to drug resistance of pathogens. However, with robust antimicrobial stewardship and surveillance systems, we can ensure that the critical drugs will be effective for future generations. We are organizing MIDCON as we are committed to serving the community and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Among the distinguished guests who addressed the conference were: Dr.Ramesh Ardhanari, Medical Director, Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre and Dr.B.Kannan, Medical Administrator. The organizing committee of MIDCON 2025 comprised: Dr.S.Kumar, HOD, Cardiac Anesthesiology as Organizing Chairperson, Dr.M.Malathi, Associate Consultant, Infectious Diseases, as Organizing Secretary, and Dr.J.Abinaya, Registrar, Infectious Diseases, as Organizing Joint Secretary.
