Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office Delegation Team comprising BIS Officials, Industry, Academia met Chief Minister of Puducherry Shri Rangaswamy at Puducherry on 16.03.25 with a request to implement the usage of Indian Standards in the Puducherry UT Procurement Policy ; ask District Industries Centre(DIC) & MSME Departments to collaborate with BIS in conducting the Capsule Courses: Instruct District Collectors to promote the use of BIS Care App and Recognition of the Government Departments / Programmes using Standards.
The BIS delegation comprised representatives from MRF Tyres, Whirlpool India Limited, Sundaram Fasteners, Maruthi Testings Pvt Limited, licensees and BIS recognised Assaying and Hallmarking Centres. Smt. G.Bhavani, Scientist-F & Head (Chennai Branch ) & Shri G Venkatanarayanan, Scientist-E were from the BIS side.
CM was greeted for the World Consumer Rights day and was thanked profusely for having given a testimonial video about BIS to CNBO. He was also requested to give directions to his departments to insist on Standard marked products so that the schemes implemented for the benefit of people had products with an assurance of quality.
A list of such products with IS details was given to the CM.The licensees also spoke during the discussion and informed about their glorious journey with BIS. The Representative from Assaying and Hallmarking Centre told CM about how the quality of Jewellery sold in Puducherry had improved after the launch of BIS hallmarking Scheme.
CM gave a patient hearing and said that his Government would always offer full support to BIS in this regard.
After Meeting the CM, The delegation team expressed sincere gratitude to the CM for giving his precious time and listening to the delegation and has promised that he would extend his support for BIS in Standards & Quality.
It is to be noted that CM of Puducherry has always supported Standards & Quality and earlier was the Chief Guest for BIS World Standards Day 2024 held at Puducherry and also had given a Word of Appreciation Video about BIS and its Service to Consumers and Industry on the Eve of BIS Foundation Day on 06 Jan 2025.
