Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS, the National Standards Body of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India celebrated the World Consumer Rights Day as Residents Welfare Association Standards Carnival with residents of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Township, Tiruchirapalli on 15.03.2025 The theme for World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2025 is “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles”.
On the occasion of WCRD 2025, BIS Madurai organized series of events with the Residential Welfare Association of BHEL township. Shri S.D.Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS Madurai Branch informed about the program objectives. He also gave a brief of BIS and its activities. He informed the significance of WCRD and six Consumer Rights which are Right to Safety, Right to be Informed, Right to Choose, Right to be heard, Right to Seek Redressal and Right to Consumer Awareness.
Shri L. Ravindran, GM (HR), BHEL welcomed the BIS Authorities and inaugurated the program. Shri K. Govindaraju, GM (Procurement), BHEL delivered the keynote address. Day Long activities were conducted in Community Centre, BHEL Township, Tiruchirappalli.
During the Day long activities, 30stalls were put up to display of quality products in order to create awareness amongst consumers. 19 BIS licensees participated in the Carnival and displayed their products and explained the science behind their making and testing. The students also displayed their science projects and posters at the stalls. A series of events were organized for consumers such as group games for women, games for residents, lucky draw and fun games for children.
Before the day long programme various competitions like Quiz, Poster designing & Science projects were conducted on 13 March 2025 at 6 schools located at BHEL Township. Competitions were also conducted for specially abled children of Arivalayam School, BHEL. A rangoli competition with the theme SDG goals conducted for the women residents on 14 March 2025. The winners of school competitions were rewarded with prizes & certificates. Winners of consumers games such as women group games, lucky draw etc, were rewarded with exciting gifts.
The residents were made aware of BIS CARE App and they were encouraged to download this app to create awareness on the importance of quality and standards emphasizing the significance of ISI mark, Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) mark, BIS Hallmark in upholding safety and quality for consumer goods. More than 8000 residents and nearly 500 students participated in the day long program and made the event a big success. Consumers are requested to download the BIS Care App which is available in Google Playstore and App Store.
