The IPR Cell of Madurai Kamaraj University, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, organized one-day workshop titled "Navigating the World of IPR: Filing, Technology Transfer, and Commercialization" on March 3, 2025, at the MKU RUSA Building to disseminate the knowledge over intellectual property rights to various stakeholders.
The Inaugural function of the programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. P. Varalakshmi, Nodal Officer of the IPR Cell, MKU. Registrar Prof. M. Ramakrishnan inaugurated the workshop, while Prof. B. Mayil Vaganan, Convenor Committee and Syndicate Member of Madurai Kamaraj University, presided over the function. Prof. D. Ganesh, Head and Chairperson of the School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, felicitated the occasion.
Following the inauguration, expert speakers delivered insightful lectures during the session. Shri. A. Raja, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Chennai Patent Office, described the importance of patent filing, role of patent in economic growth, patentable and non-patentable products and processes.
Dr. S. Sivakumar, Assistant Registrar of TM, GI & CR, Chennai Patent Office, elaborated the Geographical Indication, Filing and Processing, contribution of GI for marketizing the unique quality of products that are manufactured from specific geographic region of the country. The afternoon session featured two key presentations. Mr. P. Jeyaselvam, Assistant Director of DFO-MSME Madurai, discussed MSME Schemes and Reimbursement Procedures available in state and central governments.
Mrs. N. Kumutha, Project Scientist II at the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai, gave a hands-on training over the Patented products and processes marketized through Technology Transfer and Commercialization with the help of TNSTC. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Rajesh, Member of the IPR Cell. The event witnessed the active participation from more than 100 students and faculty members from Madurai Kamaraj University and other colleges in and around Madurai. The workshop's outcomes will enhance intellectual property rights, fostering the advancement of patents and copyrights both within the university and across neighbouring institutions.
