NIT Trichy Launches Solar Entrepreneurship Training with NIESBUD

The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NIT-T), in collaboration with the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Government of India, inaugurated a nine-day Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) on Solar Entrepreneurship on November 10, 2025 at NIT Tiruchirappalli. The programme is sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.


The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Dr.R.Murugesan, Professor and Head, The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, NIT-T, followed by felicitations by Dr. N. Kumaresan, Professor and Dean (Faculty Welfare), NIT-T. Dr. G. Aghila, Director, NIT Tiruchirappalli, in her inaugural address, highlighted the importance of renewable energy in achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, emphasizing that solar energy represents not just a clean and sustainable power source but also a vibrant space for entrepreneurial innovation and employment generation. She noted that India’s abundant solar potential positions it as a global leader in renewable energy adoption. Dr. Aghila also shared that the response to the programme was overwhelming, with over 350 applications received from across Tamil Nadu.


Mr. P. Silambarasan, State Head and Programme Director, NIESBUD, Tamil Nadu, proposed the vote of thanks.


The nine-day programme, running from November 10 to 19, 2025, offers 100% hands-on training in areas such as solar system design, installation, entrepreneurship management, marketing, and after-sales service. Participants will also gain practical exposure through field visits to solar installations on the NIT Tiruchirappalli and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) campuses. This initiative is part of a broader national mission to empower small entrepreneurs and promote sustainable livelihoods through renewable energy. By combining technical training with entrepreneurial guidance, the programme aligns with the goals of Skill India, Start-up India, and Viksit Bharat 2047.


Through this initiative, NIT Tiruchirappalli reaffirms its commitment  to supporting the nation’s renewable energy and entrepreneurship development efforts by offering infrastructure, technical expertise and academic mentorship for such transformative enterprises.
