A delegation from the Tamil Nadu Auto Call Taxi Drivers Union Federation, led by President Shri Zahir Hussain along with Shri R. Vetrivel (General Secretary) and Shri V. Dilli Babu (Treasurer), met Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, senior BJP leader and former Governor of Telangana, to present the challenges faced by taxi and auto drivers in the current mobility ecosystem. They highlighted how high commission structures imposed by major aggregator platforms are severely affecting driver earnings and increasing financial stress.
The delegation also briefed Dr. Tamilisai on the rise of driver-centric mobility models such as Sahkar Taxi, Bharat Taxi, and subscription-based platforms like Rapido and Namma Yatri, which provide better income stability by eliminating per-ride commissions. They raised a key concern regarding the uniform 5% GST without ITC applied to both commission-based and subscription-based platforms, stressing that this indirectly burdens drivers who opt for sustainable, commission-free models.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan appreciated the concerns shared by the Federation and assured them she would examine the issues and engage with the relevant authorities in the Government of India. The meeting underscored the need for a fair, inclusive mobility-policy framework that protects driver livelihoods and supports the growth of emerging driver-friendly platforms in Tamil Nadu.
