The workshop featured comprehensive technical sessions led by various department experts to update the media on current national initiatives. Shri Praveen Pandi Mohandas, Central Labour Commissioner for the Madurai Region, detailed the transition of 29 legacy labour laws into four new streamlined Labour Codes and explained their modern implementation objectives. Following this, Shri V. Santhanam, Regional Director of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in Chennai, highlighted educational opportunities for school dropouts and marginalized communities. He explained how NIOS provides 10th and 12th-grade certifications alongside 86 vocational courses to help persons with disabilities and underprivileged groups achieve the mission of education for all.
Infrastructure developments were also a major focus of the event as Shri Govindasamy, Regional Officer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Madurai, shared updates on major projects. He specifically noted that the Madurai-Natham-Thuvarankurichi (NH 785) four-lane project has significantly reduced travel time and discussed the development of the Dindigul-Pollachi (NH 83) four-lane stretch. He further promoted the 'Rajmarg Yatra' app and the annual FASTag facility to improve the travel experience for the general public.
To conclude the training, media expert Shri Habeeb Rahman provided hands-on guidance on the necessity of skill-upgrading in the AI era by demonstrating specific tools designed to verify news authenticity and combat the threat of Deepfakes. The event commenced with a welcome address by Shri B. Arunkumar, Director of PIB Chennai, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Smt. Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Director of PIB Chennai. The workshop saw active participation from journalists and journalism students from Madurai and surrounding districts.
