Surana & Surana International Attorneys marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its new branch office in Coimbatore on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
Established in Chennai in 1971, Surana & Surana International Attorneys has been consistently recognised as the highest-ranked South Indian law firm for over three consecutive decades.
The firm is also the world’s first law firm to receive ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and SA 8000 (Social Accountability) certifications, and the first law firm in Asia to be certified under ISO 9001 (Quality Management System). These recognitions reflect the firm’s commitment to internationally recognised standards in environmental management, social accountability, and quality management practices.
The firm, known for its strong Corporate, Commercial, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) practices, serves clients across more than 60 cities in India and over 40 countries worldwide.
The firm’s Managing Partner & CEO, Dr. Vinod Surana, is credited with conceptualising and advocating with the Central Government for the establishment of India’s first Defence Manufacturing Corridor in Tamil Nadu in 2017.
For over three decades, the firm has represented several leading business families and corporates in the Coimbatore–Tirupur region from its Chennai office.
The firm also has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CODISSIA to provide legal, financial, and tax restructuring support, as well as compliance-related services to its members, including defence start-ups incubated at the CODISSIA Defence Innovation and Incubation Centre (CDIIC).
The firm has further entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, encouraging the establishment of branches in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities across the state to provide high-quality legal services that support and protect the interests of both traditional and emerging industries.
Mr. KarthiKeyan Mounaguruswamy, President of CODISSIA, leads the association in promoting industrial growth, with a strong focus on defence innovation and MSME development. During his address, Mr. Mounaguruswamy expressed his appreciation for Surana & Surana’s distinguished role as legal advisors to the Ministry of Defence since 2017. He highlighted the firm’s crucial contribution to developing the Tamil Nadu Defence Corridor, particularly emphasising its impact on the growth of MSMEs within the industry.
To mark the occasion, the firm released three handbooks on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), MSMEs, and Business Families, underscoring its thought leadership and expertise in these areas.
Mr. Rajesh Lund, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, opened his address by highlighting Surana & Surana’s commendable work culture and the gender diversity in the firm. He noted that Surana and Surana’s launch of the Coimbatore office also marked the International Women’s Day. He cited the firm’s prestigious ISO certifications, making it the first law firm in the world to achieve the Environment Management standard, and the first in Asia to achieve the Quality Management standard. Mr. Lund welcomed the firm’s launch, expressing that he looks forward to the continued growth and value its presence will contribute to the region.
Mr. Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of Krish Carbon, recounted his thirteen-year-long association with Surana and Surana, and expressed that such a stable relationship with a law firm is truly remarkable and speaks to their professional attitude. The event also featured two high-impact panel discussions focusing on the evolving role and challenges of business families in India’s growth journey.
Panel Discussion I – “Vision for Coimbatore of 2047” brought together prominent business and social leaders to deliberate on the region’s growth trajectory and the evolving role of business families in shaping its future. It was moderated by Dr. Vinod Surana, Managing Partner & CEO, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, with the following panellists: Mr. Sriram Sankaran, Entrepreneur, CMD, Synchron Group, Ms. Priya Bhansali, Managing Partner, Kumbhat and Co LLP, and Prof. P. Kanagasabhapati, Author & Researcher.
Panel Discussion II – “Governance, Growth and Succession – Practical Challenges in Business Families” examined the structural and generational complexities faced by promoter-driven enterprises. It was moderated by Prof. (Dr.) Priyatej Kotipalli, Associate Professor and Deputy Director, IDEATE Labs & Family Business Centre with the following panellists: Mr. Sanjay Mehta, Senior Partner, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Mr. Rajesh Govindarajulu, Jeweller, Historian, & Columnist, Mr. Rohit Bharadwaj, Country Head - India & Director Private Clients Henley & Partners.
The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session followed by a networking lunch, reaffirming the firm’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and strengthening the broader business ecosystem.
