An anti-drug awareness rally was flagged off yesterday by Erode District Collector S. Kandhasamy near the Government Headquarters Hospital Roundabout in Erode as part of the observance of Drug Prevention Week.
The rally aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of narcotic substances and the serious consequences of drug abuse. Participants emphasized the importance of young people and students staying away from drugs and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The event was organized as part of a series of awareness initiatives aimed at building a drug-free society and educating the public about the dangers associated with substance abuse.
More than 150 participants, including government officials, doctors, nurses, volunteers, members of the Junior Red Cross, Scouts and Guides, National Service Scheme (NSS), Anti-Drug Coordination Committee representatives, and teachers, took part in the rally. Participants carried placards highlighting anti-drug messages and spread awareness among the public along the route.
During the event, Erode Superintendent of Police Kiran Shruthi and Chief Educational Officer Dr. E. Maanvizhi, along with officials from various departments, were also present and supported the awareness campaign.
The rally underscored the collective commitment of government departments, educational institutions, and community organizations to combat drug abuse and promote a healthier, drug-free future for society.
