Disaster Management Awareness Programme Held at Geetha Jeevan College

A community awareness programme on disaster management was conducted at Geetha Jeevan Arts and Science College with the approval of Principal Ilangumaran. The event was organized as part of the initiatives of District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Vishnu Mahajan.


The programme was attended by Ottapidaram Tahsildar Ayyanar, Revenue Inspector Pon. Murugesh, Village Administrative Officer Jessibai Hilda and Block Health Supervisor Kalimuthu.


The awareness event was conducted under the coordination of the Ottapidaram Tahsildar as part of an outreach initiative by the National Disaster Response Force. The primary objective was to educate students about disaster preparedness, emergency response measures and safety practices to be followed during both natural and man-made disasters.


An awareness session and practical demonstrations were led by NDRF Team Leader Suresh Chand Kumawat from Arakkonam. NDRF personnel, including Havildars Ranjith, Sakthi, Pon Selvam and Krishnakumar, explained various disaster management techniques and demonstrated rescue operations and emergency response procedures.


Students actively participated in the programme and gained practical knowledge on disaster preparedness, safe evacuation methods, first aid and rescue operations. Interactive discussions and live demonstrations enhanced students’ awareness and readiness to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.


The programme also highlighted the importance of disaster risk reduction and community-level preparedness, encouraging students to play an active role in building safer and more resilient communities.
