Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, IAS, conducted an inspection on Friday to review sanitation activities in the K.K. Nagar Sundaram Park and Obulapadithurai areas, as well as renovation works undertaken at Rajaji Park in Tamukkam.

During the inspection, the Commissioner visited Sundaram Park Main Road, the Obulapadithurai Vazhakkai Pettai area, and the southern bank of the Vaigai River to assess cleanliness operations. He instructed officials to ensure that waste collected in garbage bins is segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories, including plastic waste, before disposal.

He also reviewed the functioning of loudspeaker systems installed on vehicles used for solid waste management and directed officials to regularly broadcast civic announcements and public awareness messages through these systems to educate residents about municipal services and sanitation practices.

At the Ward No. 31 Health Office in Tallakulam, located opposite the Corporation Swimming Pool on Dr. Thangaraj Road, the Commissioner examined attendance registers, birth and death records, and staff deployment details. He instructed officials to maintain the ward office in a clean and hygienic condition at all times.

The Commissioner further directed that waste generated by roadside shops in the Tamukkam area be disposed of only in municipal garbage bins and warned that penalties should be imposed on those found dumping waste on roads and public spaces.

Later, he inspected the renovated facilities at Rajaji Park on Tamukkam Road, including recreational equipment, drinking water facilities, toilets, and lighting infrastructure. He instructed officials to ensure that drinking water tanks are kept clean and that toilet facilities are properly maintained for public use.

He also reviewed arrangements for storing clothes distributed to homeless and destitute individuals near Rajaji Park and directed officials to keep them safely maintained.

The inspection was attended by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Abhishek, Assistant Executive Engineers and several other corporation officials.
