Santiago Alvarez to Lead Chennai Bulls in RPL Season 2

Defending Rugby Premier League champions Chennai Bulls have named Argentinian star Santiago Alvarez as captain of the men’s team for Season 2, with Indian international Mohit Khatri appointed as vice-captain. For the inaugural women’s competition, Chantelle Miell will lead the Chennai Bulls, while Savannah Bauder has been named vice-captain. Both teams will begin their campaigns against Delhi Redz on June 16.


The Chennai Bulls head into the new season with a strong squad featuring leading international and Indian rugby players. The franchise enjoyed a historic 2025–26 season, becoming the first Indian representative side to compete in the Fiji Coral Coast 7s and the prestigious Hong Kong 10s, further strengthening its reputation on the global rugby stage.


“Leading the Chennai Bulls this season is a matter of pride, and I’m hoping we can defend our title from Season 1,” said Santiago Alvarez, Captain, Chennai Bulls. Meanwhile, Chantelle Miell, Captain, Chennai Bulls Women, said, “The introduction of the women’s squads in the Rugby Premier League is a huge step forward for rugby sevens, and we are excited to carry forward Chennai Bulls’ legacy in the competition.”
