Launched in partnership with the Shiv Bhagat Family of Tiruchirapalli in loving memory of their late son Anish, the initiative has been dedicated to ensuring that children from underprivileged backgrounds receive timely eye screenings and free spectacles, enabling them to experience improved vision and greater opportunities in education and daily life.
Over the past five years under the guidance of Dr. Shibu Varkey, Medical Director at Maxivision, expert medical teams screened over 2,250 students across G. Shakunthala Higher Secondary School, E.R. Higher Secondary School, and Ponniah School in Tiruchirappalli. The screenings enabled early detection of vision problems, and as a result, more than 150 deserving students will receive prescription spectacles at no cost. Since its inception, the initiative has screened over 10,000 students and provided more than 600 pairs of eyewear free of cost to children in need.
Speaking of the occasion, Dr.Shibu Varkey, Regional Medical Director, Tamil Nadu; Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals said, A child’s inability to see the classroom board should never become a barrier to learning, confidence, or future opportunities. At Maxivision, we believe every child deserves the gift of unobstructed vision, regardless of their circumstances. For the past five years, we have remained committed to changing that reality with one eye screening and one pair of spectacles at a time. Our objective goes beyond providing screenings and spectacles; it is about enabling children to read the classroom board clearly, participate confidently in lessons, perform better academically, and pursue their education without avoidable barriers. As we continue to expand the reach of this programme, our commitment remains the same to ensure that no child's potential is limited by a preventable vision problem."
As the initiative enters its fifth year, Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals continues to strengthen its commitment to childhood eye health by addressing preventable vision challenges through medical expertise, community outreach, compassionate care, and meaningful partnerships. Through timely screenings and early intervention, the hospital remains focused on enabling more children to see clearly, learn with confidence, and move towards a brighter future.
