The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College on August 15, 2026, with patriotic fervour.
College Principal Dr. Ramasubbiah presided over the celebrations. College President Vijayaraghavan, Secretary and Engineer Sridhar, and Treasurer Alwarsamy were present. Self-Financing Section Director Prabhu delivered the felicitation address.
Dr. Bhavani, Head and Associate Professor of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics, attended as the special guest. She hoisted the national flag and received the ceremonial salute from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) personnel.
In her Independence Day address, Dr. Bhavani said freedom was the birthright of every citizen. She urged the younger generation not merely to remember the historical achievers and freedom fighters but to follow their ideals and live by their values.
Recalling the inspiring lives and contributions of leaders who fought for the nation, she called upon today's youth to work towards building a society free from drug abuse, ensuring the safety of women, preventing suicides and accidents, and promoting a fearless and secure life.
Students of the National Service Scheme (NSS), NCC cadets, professors, administrative staff and students of the college participated in the celebrations.
Principal Dr. Ramasubbiah distributed sweets to all those who attended the programme.
Earlier, Director of Physical Education Dr. Raghavan welcomed the gathering. NCC Lieutenant Dr. Suresh proposed the vote of thanks.
The arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations were made by the Physical Education Department and NSS programme officers.
