Poor Brides to Receive Gold Coin and Quality Silk Saree Under 'Annan Seer' Scheme: Minister K. Jagatheeswari

Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women's Rights, K. Jagatheeswari, has announced that the State Government has introduced the "Annan Seer" scheme to support the marriage of women from economically weaker sections.


Speaking to a private television channel, the Minister said that, under the guidance of Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru Vijay, the Government will provide a one sovereign (8-gram) gold coin and a quality silk saree to eligible brides at the time of their marriage.


She stated that the scheme has been introduced to ease the financial burden on poor families and to ensure that every eligible woman receives support from the Government during one of the most important milestones in her life.


Minister K.Jagatheeswari further said that the Government has allocated ₹812 crore in the 2026–27 State Budget for the implementation of the Annan Seer scheme.


She added that the Vijay Government remains committed to women's welfare and empowerment by introducing people-centric initiatives that promote social justice, dignity and economic security for women across Tamil Nadu.
