Women are overcoming the challenges and hardships they face in society and are steadily creating a strong place for themselves in politics and governance, said Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Minister K. Jagadeshwari in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Addressing the Assembly yesterday, Minister K. Jagadeshwari spoke emotionally about the challenges women face in society and the hardships they go through. She said that Chief Minister Vijay Anna has been a major source of confidence and courage for women.
Speaking in the Assembly, she said, “As a woman living in this society, I would like to share how many difficulties we face and how many hardships we have to overcome. Our biggest support is our respected Chief Minister Vijay Anna.”
She further said, “I have been travelling with Anna for more than 18 years. I was with him then, and I continue to travel with him now. Although I stand here today and speak as a confident woman, there can still be a little hesitation when I take a paper in my hand and read from it. No one learns everything overnight and comes here fully prepared.”
Speaking about women’s participation in politics, the Minister said, “The only reason we may hesitate is that this is new to us. It does not mean that we lack education, knowledge or ability.”
She further expressed confidence that the voices of women would be heard more boldly and courageously in the next Assembly session. “In the next Assembly session, the voices of all our women will be heard very boldly and courageously. Our Vijay Anna has given us the confidence and courage to do so,” Minister K. Jagadeeswari said firmly.
The Minister emphasised that initial hesitation among women should not be viewed as a lack of ability. She said that the apprehension women experience while taking on new responsibilities and entering new fields would gradually disappear with experience.
Concluding her speech on a note of confidence and determination, Minister K. Jagadeshwari declared: “We will endure anything; we will achieve anything!”
