BIS Holds Stakeholder Conclave on Sustainable Energy in Mahabubnagar

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office, organised a Stakeholder Conclave at Jadcherla, Mahabubnagar District, on 29 September 2026 as part of the World Standards Day 2026 celebrations. The conclave focused on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) – Affordable and Clean Energy and brought together more than 100 participants from industries, academia, consumers and other stakeholder organisations.


The programme aimed to strengthen engagement between BIS and industries in Mahabubnagar District, create awareness about Indian Standards and conformity assessment, and encourage industries to adopt quality, safety, energy-efficient and sustainable practices.


Shri Venkateshwarlu, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahabubnagar, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Shri Althaf, Assistant Commissioner, Labour Department, and Smt. M. Sreelaxmi, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Government of Telangana, participated as Guests of Honour and delivered technical presentations.


In his Chief Guest address, Shri Venkateshwarlu, DSP, Mahabubnagar, emphasised the importance of safety and adherence to standards across industries. He urged industries to give priority to safety and quality in their products, processes and operations.


He highlighted the role of BIS in strengthening India's quality ecosystem and observed that BIS is contributing to transforming India's industrial landscape through robust standards. He encouraged industries and stakeholders to actively participate in the standards ecosystem and become partners in India's quality journey.


In his inaugural address, Shri P.V. Srikanth, Head and Director/Scientist-E, BIS Hyderabad Branch Office, highlighted that World Standards Day is not merely an occasion to talk about standards, but also an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the entire standards community and the partnership of industries, regulators, consumers, experts and institutions in making standards meaningful.


Speaking on the theme of SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, Shri Srikanth emphasised that the future of India's industrial growth must be based on quality, sustainability and responsible use of resources.


He stated that Indian Standards provide a common framework for quality, safety, performance and reliability, thereby creating confidence among consumers, manufacturers, regulators and global markets. He highlighted that BIS has developed more than 23,000 Indian Standards covering a wide range of sectors, from everyday products to advanced aerospace and technological systems.


He further stated that the scope of mandatory certification has expanded significantly, with more than 700 products currently covered under various mandatory certification requirements. He emphasised that these achievements are milestones in India's quality journey and that continued collaboration with industry is essential for further strengthening the standards ecosystem.


Calling industry one of the most important partners of BIS, Shri Srikanth urged industries to actively participate in technical committees, provide inputs for development and revision of standards and share their practical experiences and technological expertise.


He also encouraged industries to look beyond compliance and view standards as an opportunity to innovate, improve efficiency, reduce waste, conserve resources and adopt cleaner technologies.


Quality Pledge Taken by Stakeholders


As part of the programme, all participating stakeholders collectively took the Quality Pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards maintaining and promoting quality, safety, reliability and adherence to standards in their respective areas of work.


The pledge served as a collective commitment by industries, government representatives, academia, consumers and other stakeholders to contribute towards building a stronger culture of quality and supporting India's journey towards excellence and sustainable development.


As part of the technical sessions, Shri K. Kavin, Deputy Director, BIS, delivered a detailed presentation on the role of BIS in achieving SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy. He explained the relevance of Indian Standards in promoting energy efficiency, clean energy technologies and sustainable industrial practices, and highlighted new and relevant standards developed in support of SDG 7.


Industry representatives also shared their experiences and best practices. JK Fenner (India) Limited and Supreme Industries Limited made presentations highlighting the sustainable practices adopted by their respective industries, including initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting sustainable industrial operations.


The Stakeholder Conclave provided an important platform for interaction between BIS, industry, government departments, academia and consumers. Participants discussed the importance of quality standards, product safety, conformity assessment, energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing practices.


The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from BIS and participating stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and promote a culture of quality, safety, innovation and sustainability among industries in Telangana.


BIS Hyderabad Branch Office expressed its appreciation to all government departments, industries, academia, consumers and other stakeholders for their active participation and continued support in strengthening India's quality ecosystem.


The programme was successfully organised as part of BIS Hyderabad Branch Office's outreach activities leading up to World Standards Day 2026.
