She said centres working for the safety and rehabilitation of women should be further strengthened so that every woman in need receives the right assistance at the right time.
Women affected by violence should have access to medical assistance, police support, legal aid, counselling and temporary shelter through an integrated system, she said. She also stressed the need to provide continuous support based on each woman’s individual problems and requirements and to monitor their cases regularly.
The Minister emphasised that these services should reach women, particularly those living in rural and remote areas.
Providing shelter and protection alone is not sufficient, she said, adding that women should also be provided with skill development training, employment opportunities, livelihood support and mental health assistance wherever necessary, enabling them to restart their lives with confidence.
The Minister said the government’s objective should be for One Stop Centres and Shakti Sadan homes to function as comprehensive support systems, helping women move from violence to safety, from safety to a life of dignity, and ultimately towards rehabilitation.
