The two day ICSSR Sponsor National Seminar on 50yrs of Stockholm UN Conference on Human Environment – 1972: Assessing India’s Journey and Way Forward has been inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Gurmeet Singh, organized by Dept. of Politics & International Studies, Pondicherry University.
The inaugural session was attended by Dr. K. Sankar, Ex-Director Wildlife Institute, Prof. B.B. Mohanty, Dean of Social Sciences & International Studies, Dr. Nanda Kishore, Head (i/c), Dept. of Politics & International Studies, Dr. Ritesh Rai and anchored by Dr. Richa Diwari.
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Gurmeet Singh highlighted the contemporary Environmental Challenges confronted by India and rest of the World. Enthralled audience with illustrating the Environmental Challenges faced by Greece, Libiya, Australia and other Nations. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor has reiterated the Rationalization of Policy making in India to overcome climate changes.
The Key Note address delivered by Dr. K. Sankar, focused on increasing forest cover, conservation of Flora and Fauna and emphasis the balance between Nature and Society. He also enlightened that Birds have better sense of understanding the Climate Change Eco System and applied to the Human Society conserve and preserve the species for healthy Human Society.
Prof. B.B. Mohanty, highlighted the need for involvement of non state actors in Environment Policy making. Noting from Epic Mahabharata, he cited the means of Environmental Protection.
Dr. Nanda, offered welcome remarks in the beginning of the inaugural function and Dr. Ritesh Rai proposed vote of thanks.
More than 16 participants have assembled in Pondicherry University to deliberate about India’s position on climate change. The conference in the next 02 days will discuss about Science of Climate change, sociological aspect of climate and financial implication of climate change. Young Scholars and Researchers make their presentation in 06 technical sessions over next 02 days. The outcome of the conference will be compiled in compendium for the policy makers and send to various Ministries.
This whole conference has been convened and directed by Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Politics & International Studies.
