Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has taken initiative to invite the industrial persons with proven expertise to a specific profession to share their experience to the student community by recognizing them as “Professor of Practice”. 


The objective of such initiative is to establish a better Industrial and academic connect like including the relevant topics in the curriculum and to build a research project with the industries to identify research gap and perform real-time research. 


Accordingly, TNAU has so far has selected 72 Professor of practice members for the current academic year 2024. On March 26, 2024, The Department of Environmental Science organized a lecture from Th.N.Jaya Prakash, Professor of Practice, a vermicomposting and a leading organic farmer, Organic Manure (Vermi Gold) Manufacturing Unit, Udumalaipettai. Dr.N.Senthil, Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies (SPGS) welcomed the gathering and Dr.P.Dhevagi, Professor & Head (Env. Science) and the Dean SPGS offered a special address to students to understand the importance of such initiative the university has taken for the benefit of students. 


Dr.P.Balasubramaniam, Director, Natural Resource Management, gave an introductory remark in which he highlighted the efforts made by the Vice-chancellor and Dean SPGS in formulating a PG activity, such as inviting industrial experts to the university, being well aware of the professor of practice member's topic and expertise, he addressed the need and benefits of vermicomposting practices. 


The session was continued as a one-hour interactive lecture with the invited professor of practice member and the PG and Ph.D students from the department of environmental sciences. The presented lecture was conducted on hybrid mode for interested persons from other department to join online and the session was recorded in Microsoft Teams.
