Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office in Coordination with Habitat for Humanity International organized a workshop for M-Sand Manufacturers regarding BIS Certification for M-Sand as per IS 383 at Hotel Taj Wellington Mews in Chennai Today 28.05.24.
Shri USP Yadav-Deputy Director General/Scientist-G, BIS informed that during this Programme, the participants [manufacturers] will be briefed about various requirements of IS 383, Test facilities which are required to be setup by the manufacturers, Process of submitting the BIS application in the online module. He also highlighted that it is noteworthy, that Tamilnadu Government has launched M Sand Policy 2023 which mandates M-Sand manufacturers to obtain BIS Certification.
Smt.G Bhavani-Scientist-E/Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) during her speech emphasised in order to strengthen the Quality Ecosystem in the country, Bureau of Indian Standards conduct Sensitization programmes on Indian Standards to various stakeholders, including State and Central Government Officials, Industries, Laboratories, etc, which is also a key agenda in the Tamilnadu State Level Committee on Standardization and Quality Systems.
Shri Dinesh Rajagoplan-Scientist-C & Smt S Divya, Scientist-D [Civil Engg Dept- BIS New Delhi] handled the technical sessions.
From Terwilliger Center for innovation in Shelter [Habitat for Humanity International] Shri Anoop Nambiar-Country Director; Shri Deepak Visvanathan-Senior Technical Advisor; Shri K Shyam Chander-Manager [Market System and Entrepreneurship] addressed the participants.
Around 75 M-Sand manufacturers from various parts of Tamilnadu attended the programme.
