BIS organises Jeweller awareness programme on hallmarking in Tiruvannamalai

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office conducted a Jeweller awareness programme on Hallmarking on 07.06.2024, Friday at Hotel Amoha in Tiruvannamalai. Around 75 Jewellers Association Presidents/Jewellers from in and around Tiruvannamalai District attended the awareness programme. 


Smt. G. Bhavani, Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) welcomed the Jewellers and explained the programme objectives. She explained the importance of Hallmarking Scheme and how Hallmarking Scheme Started and how it has evolved over the years. 


This was followed by a technical presentation which was handled by Shri B J Gowtham, Scientist-D, BIS, Chennai Branch Office. He explained BIS Hallmarking Scheme & Procedures, Hallmarking Rules & Regulation, Responsibilities of Jewelers, Elements of Indian Standard (IS 1417 & IS 2112) & Amendments, HUID in Brief, Online Registration, BIS Care App, Introduction demo in manak online portal etc.,


Participants appreciated the BIS initiative on Jewellers Awareness meet. The Programme ended with vote of thanks.


Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
