78th Independence Day celebrated in V.O.Chidambaranar Port Authority

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated by V.O.Chidambaranar Port in a grand manner at the Port’s School ground at 08:00 Hrs. on 15.08.2024.


The celebrations to mark the 78th Independence Day of India commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson,


V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority. Thereafter, he took salute from CISF contingent, Port Fire Service and NCC students of the Port Schools.


In his Independence Day message, the Chairperson recalled the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and requested all to contribute towards realizing the dreams of our founding fathers and the objectives set out by the Government of India. 


Sharing the recent developments at the Port, Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, stated that the Berth No. 9 will soon be converted into a Container terminal with the capacity to handle 6 Lakh TUEs of containers and North Cargo Berth-III will be fully mechanised and dredged to a draft of 14.20 metres for handling 7 Million tonnes of bulk cargo per annum.


He also mentioned that the 'Request For Qualification' for the Outer Harbour project, for which the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India laid the foundation stone during his visit to the Port in February 2024, is currently under evaluation, and awaiting necessary statutory clearances.


In further added that VOC Port has undertaken the  Green Hydrogen Pilot project with a capacity of 10 Nm3 / Hr., the first of its kind among major ports of India would be expedited by  November 2024, and the project for Bunkering and storage of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives shall be completed by  December 2025.


As the part of the celebration, Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson also distributed the meritorious awards to the officers and staff of the Port, Port School children & teachers and children of Port employees. The Port’s School students, dressed in the vibrant colours exhibited their impactful dance performances and the CISF unit of the Port displayed various demonstrations.


In a continued effort to enhance environmental sustainability and contribute to a greener future, the Port also organised a plantation drive at the Port school ground. Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, and senior officers of the Port participated in the event.
