The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), National Standards body of India, is celebrating World Standards Day 2024 with a series of impactful events across Tamil Nadu, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring quality, safety, and consumer trust through robust standards. BIS Madurai has launched multiple initiatives to honor professionals who contribute to national and international standardization efforts, while emphasizing the crucial role standards play in fostering innovation, enhancing product quality, and building consumer confidence.
Starting from October 5, 2024, BIS Madurai has organized Day-Long Programmes and Quality Connect Campaigns at leading colleges in Tamil Nadu, including National Engineering College (Thoothukudi), Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College (Sivagangai), Sri Parasakthi College for Women (Tenkasi), Maruthupandiyar College (Thanjavur), Annai Hajira Women’s College (Tirunelveli). These events, conducted on October 5, 7, and 8, 2024, attracted enthusiastic participation from students, underscoring the importance of standards in everyday life.
The Day-Long Programmes featured a range of student competitions such as slogan writing, poster design, essay writing, reels, and memes. Winners were rewarded with cash prizes and certificates for their creative efforts. Simultaneously, the Quality Connect Campaign encouraged students to spread awareness about BIS quality marks, including the ISI mark, the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) mark, and the BIS Hallmark, which serve as guarantees of product safety and quality for consumers. Each volunteer is responsible for sharing information about the BIS Quality Connect app with 25 fellow students and, upon completing the campaign, will receive an honorarium of Rs.1,500.
The objective of these events is to raise awareness on the significance of quality and standards in protecting consumers and ensuring the safety of goods. Over 640 students have participated in the Day-Long Programmes so far, and 700 students have registered as volunteers for the Quality Connect Campaign from the above institutes along with this Anna university, Madurai and Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, reflecting a strong engagement with BIS’s mission. As BIS Madurai leads these efforts to mark World Standards Day 2024, the organization continues to inspire future generations to recognize the value of standards in enhancing quality, safety, and trust across industries.
