VMLS Hosts State-Level Tamil Family Law Moot Court Competition

Vinayaka Mission's Law School's Global Tamil Law Centre (GTLC), in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, organized a prestigious State-Level Tamil Family Law Moot Court Competition from 26th to 28th September 2024. The event attracted 40 Teams from law colleges across Tamil Nadu. Hon'ble Justice (Retd.) Dr. P Jyothimani, Former Judicial Member of the National Green Tribunal & Chairperson, Global Tamil Law Centre, VMLS; Mrs. Kosalai Mathan, Lecturer, Department of Law, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka; Dr. Ananth Padmanabhan, Dean, VMLS; Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Client Relations at Surana & Surana; Mr. Preetam Surana, Partner, Dispute Resolution & Head of Academic Initiatives at Surana & Surana International Attorneys; and Mr. Kumaresan, Secretary of Chengalpattu Bar Association.


The three-day competition commenced with an orientation session on the first day, where  Hon'ble Judge Mr. K. Sakthivel, Principal District Munsif, Thiruvannamalai; Adv. Varadhan M, Member, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry; Adv. Muneeswaran, practitioner at Chengalpattu District Court and Madras High Court; Mr. Anand Kumar, Assistant Professor, SRM Law School; and Mrs. Kosalai Mathan, Lecturer, Department of Law, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka   In a tightly contested final, the team from Government Law College, Madurai, - comprising  Priyadharshini R, Gokula Krishnakumari K, and Siva Subramanian R, emerged victorious, winning certificates, trophies, and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. The team from Government Law College, Salem, - comprising  Siva Prashaath K, Sri Gugan S, and Jerom Stuward J, secured the runner-up position and received certificates, trophies, and Rs. 15,000 in cash prizes.


The event concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony attended by Dr. Ananth Padmanabhan, Dean, VMLS; Mr. Preetam Surana; Mr. Kalyan Jhabakh, Senior Partner, Head of Dispute Resolution at Surana & Surana; and Mr. Anantha Eswaran, President of the Chengalpattu Bar Association.


The competition was efficiently organized by Dr. Fowmina C, Assistant Dean and Faculty Coordinator of the Global Tamil Law Centre, VMLS, along with Mr. Saravanan Ravi, Assistant Professor, VMLS. Coordination was managed by Johnson Christy, Manager - Special Projects (Academic Initiatives & Dispute Resolution Practice), Surana and Surana.


Dr. A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (VMRF), and Mr. Suresh Samuel, a member of the Board of Management at VMRF, conveyed their best wishes to all the participating students and the winning team.
