The 25th Annual Post Graduate Advisory Committee meeting of the DBT sponsored M.Sc.(Biotechnology) programme was conducting at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, TNAU, Coimbatore on 08.11.2024.
Every year, the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi conducts an annual review meeting to assess the status of the M.Sc.(Biotech) degree programme at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, TNAU, Coimbatore. This year, the Govt of India nominees Dr.Manoj Kumar and Dr.Vinitha Chaudry attended the meeting. External subject experts Dr.Selvi from Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore and Dr.Kalaiselvi from Avinashilingam Institute for Higher Education for Women and an Industrial expert Dr.Karunakaran Marithachalam from Corteva Agriscience interacted with the students and faculty of the Biotechnology department.
Mr.Anshul Saxena, Senior Director from Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC), Govt of India, also made suggestions for imparting skill training for the students and will liaise with the Government for implementing the training schedule for the students.
Initially, the course coordinator Dr.N. Senthil, Director of the Center for Plant Molecular Biology, TNAU presented the progress made by the department on the education status offered to the students such as the newly established infrastructures, encouragement of research paper publication by students and the placements of alumni in the past years. TNAU University Vice Chancellor Dr.V. Geethalakshmi commented on the importance of imparting industry-ready skills to the students and to encourage the students to go abroad for research training during their study period. The advisory committee members interacted separately with the faculty and the students to receive and offer suggestions on improving the admission strength of the M.Sc. students.
All the committee members lauded the progress made at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, TNAU, Coimbatore on the quality education and industry-ready skills offered to the students. The committee presented the review report which will be submitted to the DBT, Govt. of India for implementation of the recommendations. While Dr.E. Kokila Devi, Professor & Head of the Department of Plant Biotechnology welcomed the gathering, Dr.L. Arul, Professor & Head of the Department of Plant Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics proposed a formal vote of thanks. The review meeting programme was coordinated by the PG coordinator Dr.R. Raghu.
