Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan Calls on South Indian Film Industry to Attend IFFI

Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr L Murugan held a significant interaction with key professionals from the Media & Entertainment (M&E) sector. The meeting was part of a series of engagements leading to the 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Film Bazaar (FB) 2024 and the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, which aims to establish India as a global hub for content creation and media innovations.


During the interactive session, Dr L. Murugan highlighted the growing importance of India's M&E sector, emphasizing how the country’s rich cultural heritage and growing infrastructure were creating immense opportunities for both Indian and global stakeholders. He emphasized the government's efforts to boost the industry, particularly through initiatives that support film production, digital content creation, and investment in media technology. The Minister also touched upon the need for India to leverage its talent pool — including directors, actors, technicians, and animation professionals — to cater to both domestic and international markets.


Dr L Murugan also discussed WAVES 2025, which will be held between February 05-09, 2025, in New Delhi at the Bharat Mandapam. He stressed that the summit would serve as a key platform for the M&E sector, bringing together professionals, policymakers, and investors to explore avenues for collaboration, co-productions, and investment. The Minister also shared his vision for WAVES as an event designed to amplify India’s standing in the global content ecosystem and attract international investment to the country’s thriving M&E industry. He noted that the event would foster new partnerships, connect industry leaders, and pave the way for expanding India's media market share on the world stage.


The interaction also gave professionals from the media, film, and entertainment industries the chance to engage directly with the Minister and discuss ongoing challenges and opportunities in the sector. There was a shared optimism about India's future as a leader in global content production, bolstered by the government’s supportive policies, which were seen as pivotal to the industry's future growth. The conversation highlighted the role of events like IFFI, FB and WAVES in not only showcasing India’s talent but also helping the country position itself as a key player in the global media and entertainment landscape.


The event witnessed the participation of film federation from the south industry. People who made it  for this event are well known producers Ravi, Dhananjay, from LYCA , Phatom Animation Mr. Bejoy etc.
