Vinayaka Mission's Law School (VMLS) commemorated the 75th National Constitution Day with a distinguished event centered on the theme, "Constitutionalism and Access to Justice: A New Blueprint for Legal Education." The program celebrated the Indian Constitution, highlighting its pivotal role in fostering justice, equity, and inclusivity in society.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ananth Padmanabhan, Dean of Vinayaka Mission's Law School, who emphasized the Constitution’s commitment to justice for all and its transformative provisions that empower individuals and strengthen inclusivity within the justice system.
Hon’ble Justice (Retd.) P. Kalaiyarasan, Former Judge of the Madras High Court, presided as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address on "Indian Constitution – Right to Education." He highlighted education’s transformative power and shared insights from his leadership as Chairman of the committee that recommended the 7.5% horizontal reservation for government school students in NEET-based medical admissions.
Dr. A. Francis Julian, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, joined as the Special Guest and spoke on "Power of the Supreme Court," focusing on Article 32 and its importance as a constitutional remedy. He discussed the impact of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) and curative petitions in securing justice.
Adv. P.V.S. Giridhar, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court, and Dr. Sridhar Krishnaswami, Senior Journalist and Academician, were Guests of Honour. Adv. Giridhar addressed "The Indian Constitution – Understanding Our Social Contract," linking social contract theory with the foundational values of the Constitution. Dr. Krishnaswami spoke on "We the People: Constitution and Democracies," elaborating on the Constitution’s dynamic nature, freedom of speech, and the balance necessary to uphold democratic values.
A notable highlight of the program was the launch of the VLAT Online Registration (2025–2026). VLAT is a bilingual entrance exam conducted in English and Tamil. It aims to provide equal opportunities for students, including those from Tamil-medium education backgrounds, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in legal education for all.
The event’s success was supported by Dr. A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), Ms. Anuradha Ganesan, Vice President, and Mr. Suresh Samuel, Board of Management Member, whose leadership continues to steer VMLS toward excellence in legal education.
