BIS Organised a Sensitization Meeting with Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Industry Association and Drug Manufacturers in Chennai

Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection. 


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a sensitization meeting with the Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani (ASU) Drugs Industry Association and Drug Manufacturers of Tamil Nadu on 26 December, 2024 at BIS, Southern Regional Office, Chennai. 


The meeting brought together professionals and manufacturers from TASUDMA, IMPCOPS, and other stakeholders in the Ayurveda, Siddha &  Unani drug industry to discuss standardization efforts within the Ayush sector under the Bureau of Indian Standards. 


The discussions highlighted how BIS collaborates with industries and production units to enhance credibility, raise quality awareness among consumers, expand market reach, provide a competitive edge, and promote business growth through increased export volumes. Throughout the meeting, feedback, suggestions, and inputs from industry stakeholders were collected.


Dr.Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region) of BIS; Smt. G. Bhavani, Head of the Chennai Branch Office at BIS and Dr. Kiruthiga G, Member Secretary of AYD 05 from BIS Ayush Department New Delhi addressed the Participants.


The Industry associations were invited to adopt, implement the Indian Standards in Ayush Sector including ISI Certification of their products.

The meeting also had a presentation focusing on the standardization activities within the Department of Ayush, which has recently established a significant collaborative initiative between BIS and the Ministry of Ayush. The office bearers and members shared their expert views on standards development relevant to the topic.
