In a significant step towards advancing collaboration in standardization, conformity assessment, and research and development, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 6th January 2025 at the NIT Warangal campus.
The event holds special significance as it was conducted on the occasion of BIS’s 78th Foundation Day. The ceremony witnessed the virtual presence of Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, and Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, who joined from the BIS Headquarters in New Delhi. The MoU was formally signed by Shri P.V. Srikanth, Director, BIS Hyderabad Branch Office, and Professor Bidyadhar Subudhi, Director, NIT Warangal, in the presence of esteemed faculty members, BIS officials, and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri P.V. Srikanth, Director, BIS Hyderabad Branch Office, emphasized that the MoU represents a significant milestone in fostering cooperation between academia and the national standards body. He highlighted that this partnership would play a crucial role in advancing research and creating a culture of standardization among students and researchers. Shri Srikanth further noted that collaboration with a premier institute like NIT Warangal opens up opportunities for innovative projects, infrastructure support for R&D, and technological advancements in conformity assessment schemes. He stressed that the MoU would enable students and researchers to engage directly with standardization activities and enhance their practical knowledge through workshops, seminars, and training programs organized jointly by BIS and NIT Warangal.
Professor Bidyadhar Subudhi, Director, NIT Warangal, expressed his delight at the collaboration and underscored its importance in integrating standardization concepts into academic curricula. He stated that the partnership aligns perfectly with NIT Warangal's commitment to academic excellence and industry relevance. Professor Subudhi highlighted that the collaboration would not only facilitate impactful research but also expose students and faculty to national and international quality benchmarks, ultimately empowering them with the knowledge and skills required to meet industry demands. He emphasized that the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Standardization, Testing, and Conformity Assessment would serve as a cornerstone for research, innovation, and capacity building.
The ceremony concluded with a shared commitment to creating a robust ecosystem where academia, industry, and regulatory bodies can collaborate effectively to address challenges related to quality assurance and conformity assessment. The partnership between BIS and NIT Warangal is expected to contribute significantly to India's journey towards becoming a global leader in standardization and quality excellence.
