Tiruvedakam Vivekananda College Students Conduct Tuberculosis Awareness Rally

The Department of Economics at Tiruvedakam West Vivekananda College, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Research Institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Chennai, organized a tuberculosis (TB) awareness rally on World Tuberculosis Day in Tiruvedakam village.


A total of 72 economics students participated in the rally, holding placards with awareness slogans such as "Let's Eradicate TB," "Prevention is Better Than Cure," and "TB Can Be Diagnosed and Completely Cured." The rally began at the Edaganathar Temple in Tiruvedakam and proceeded through the village streets and transportation hubs, spreading awareness.


The rally was inaugurated by the college principal, Dr. T. Venkatesan. Joining the students were Dr. M. Muniyandi, Head of the Health Economics Department at ICMR’s National Tuberculosis Research Institute in Chennai, and Dr. M. Mahesh Kumar from the Madurai branch of ICMR’s National Tuberculosis Research Institute at Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. They addressed the villagers on tuberculosis prevention and eradication.


The event was coordinated by Assistant Professors from the Department of Economics: Dr. A. Satheesh Babu, Dr. M. Arulmaran, Dr. N. Dhinakaran, Dr. K. Ashokkumar, and Dr. V. Saminathan.
