The Golden Fibre Jute is an eco-friendly & bio-degradable fibre. Today, jute is looked upon not only as a major textile fibre, but also as a raw material for manufacturing products which protects environment and maintain ecological balance. Set up by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, National Jute Board (NJB) is undertaking various programmes for Indian jute.
National Jute Board represents interests of different sectors including artisans, WSHG, Jute entrepreneurs and exporters of jute goods.
Jute has travelled a long journey from "Sacks" to "Sophistication”. Today some of the diversified jute products have become the choice of the connoisseurs too. As part of its promotional activities, NJB is organizing "JUTE FAIR" which comprises of Display Cum Sale of Eco-Friendly, Lifestyle Jute Products. Total 20 Jute units from different parts of the country, including Tamilnadu are showcasing their environment-friendly jute consumer products like, Jute Handicrafts, Jute Dolls, Fancy Jute bags, Jute Shopping bags, Jute Mattings, Gift articles, Jute Wall hangings, Home Textiles, Jute Footwear, etc. Shri R. Ambalavanan, IAAS, Director & Head, Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute [EDII], Govt. of Tamilnadu, has inaugurated the Jute Fair on 18th Mar’2025 at 15.30 Hours. Shri T. Ayyappan, Retd. Head Marketing, National Jute Board, introduced the South based Jute Entrepreneurs, developed by NJB, to the Chief Guest.
Mr.R.P.Sreenivasan, Secretary, SIJA and various other Senior State Govt. Officials, were present during the occasion. Mr.Subhajit Sil, and Mr.Rizwanuz Zaman, Young Professional/s, NJB, Kolkata, made all the arrangements for the Jute Fair, Chennai and also briefed the Chief Guest with the latest developments in the Jute Sector.
Chief Guest during the visit appreciated the efforts of Jute Artisans and their craftsmanship and also advocated usage of Jute Products, in the Daily Life, by the general public in place of Plastic products. Chief Guest was impressed on the employment opportunities being provided for Women entrepreneurs, in Tamilnadu, in many of the Jute Units.
Shri.R. Ambalavanan, Chief Guest also suggested that, the New Entrepreneurs in Tamilnadu, should utilise the Schemes of EDII-TN, for becoming successful Jute Entrepreneurs. Chief Guest also addressed the Press and stressed the use of Eco-friendly jute Products, by all the Common public, in their Day-to-Day life considering the Bio-degradable aspect of Jute products. Chief Guest also indicated that, EDII is contemplating to have tie-ups with NJB for Jute Training and Employment opportunities in Tamilnadu. Shri.R. Ambalavanan stressed that more such Jute Fairs, to be organised by NJB in regular intervals at different parts of Tamilnadu, for creating awareness and marketing opportunities for the Jute products.
